The Spitz Festival of The Blues - April 2006

What
with their world tour and all, there's been much talk in the media
recently about the Rolling Stones being the World's Greatest Rock
N' Roll Band, but lets be frank, they've been crap for
the last twenty years, and even when they were making good records
you still had Mick flouncing about in frilly shirts reading poetry
to Hells Angels.
Apparently these days they're 'really great live', but how can you
tell, sitting quarter of a mile away in mega-stadia built by oppressive
regime's in order to garner international credibility?
No, the Rolling Stones are not The World's Greatest Rock N' Roll
Band, Wilko and his band are - the stripped-downest, keeping-it-realest,
right-there-in-your-facest purest distillation of the spirit of
rock n' roll that ever walked the planet. At least they were last
night. Hats off to the Spitz for including them in their excellent
festival.
